Bead-Coin Shawl Top
Designer: Dahlal

ITEMS NEEDED:

  • One Bead-Coin Shawl
Note: You may also purchase a second Bead-Coin Shawl to wear on your hips as shown in the photo.

  • One Halter-Style bra that matches the scarf color you choose.

Instructions:

Step 1:
Fold over the top edge of your scarf so that the beaded pyramids face down. Position the scarf on your chest so the folded edge lays up against your neck (see photo).

Step 2:
Bring the side points of your scarf triangle around your back and crisscross them, bringing the ends up and over your shoulders to meet the folded edge of your scarf. Have a friend help you pin the scarf in place.

Step 3:
For an added variation and less coverage in front, just pin up the center point of the scarf (as shown on the model below right).

To create a more permanent and secure top:

Step 1: Cut a piece of 1/2” grosgrain ribbon long enough to wrap around your neck with an overlap of approximately 1-1/2”.

Step 2: Sew the ribbon along the center part of the folded edge of the scarf.

Step 3: Fold over the raw ends of the ribbon 1/4” and hand sew or machine stitch in place.

Step 4: Create a closure for your “choker” ribbon by sewing a large snap on the ends of your ribbon.

Step 5: Reinforce the side points of the scarf triangle, and any place where you would be pinning the points of the scarf, with folded pieces of grosgrain ribbon. Sew hooks or large snaps on the reinforcements for a more permanent, secure closure.

The result: A very simple, but impressive, performance top.
