DIRECTIONS:
Coin Wrap Top
This top can be made with either an Egyptian Coin Wrap, a Bead / Coin Wrap, or a Bead / Coin Shawl. Using a firm cupped bra that hooks in the back with convertible straps that can be made into a halter or crisscross style. The bra should be the same color of the hip wrap or, if you are using a multi-colored hip wrap, try to match the bra color to the predominant color in the hip wrap.
Step 1:
Line up the top of the hip wrap at the top edge of the bra and tuck into the bra approximately two inches deep following the curve of the bra. After pinning, remove the bra and sew the wrap onto it. Sew the wrap from cup to cup leaving the wrap loose at the sides and back.
Step 2:
At this point the wrap will lie straight down. Gather the wrap in the center and at the sides up to a point where it will drape comfortable on you. Sew at points where the material is gathered. Depending on the size of the dancer, the gatherings will vary. It is not necessary to sew the bottom of the wrap to the bra. I prefer to leave it loose for more coin movement.
Step 3:
Complete the top design. Put on the bra and take each end and cross them in the back, making sure the back of the bra isn't showing. Holding onto each end, tuck them under the bra straps and wind around them until the end of each wrap that has coins on it meets the top of the bra in front. It is optional if you wish to use small safety pins to hold the ends secure on the bra straps. The back of the top will have a crisscross design.
Sash Skirt
Step 1:
To make a casing for your sash skirt, fold the top of the skirt down on the backside to meet the first yarn stitching where the coins start and sew it together. Sew it only the width of the skirt, leaving the sashes loose on each side.
Step 2:
Run an inch wide non-roll elastic through the casing and sew together tight enough on your hips so that your skirt won't slip down. This way, you can slip on the skirt and tie the ends either in a box or a knot. By using the casing with elastic, the skirt will not ride up or slip around when you are dancing since the sash skirt tends to be bottom heavy with all the coins on it. Using a casing is a particularly good idea for dancers who have small hips. I recommend wearing narrower legged sheer harem pants (36" around) underneath the sash skirt if you are doing turns in your dance.
